Atel subsidiary commissions Czech power station

Kladno GT, an Atel subsidiary, commissioned a new power station in Kladno at the end of November 2006. The 43 MW gas-fired power station is designed primarily to generate balancing power for the Czech power supply system. Kladno GT spent some 38 million Swiss francs on building the facility.

The new power station is equipped with a gas-fired turbine with an electrical output of 43 MW. The facility is designed to reach full load from a cold start within only 30 minutes. In addition, it has the capability to start without an external power supply. This power station is the first facility with this capability in the Czech Republic, where the requirements for balancing power and reserve energy are rising steadily. The new power station will contribute to the stability of the power system, thus ensuring a reliable power supply.

The power station commissioned by Kladno Energy Businesses (KEB) was built by Skoda Prague. KEB is a wholly owned subsidiary of Aare-Tessin Ltd. for Electricity (Atel). Construction started in September 2005 and took just over one year.

ECKG power generating companies wholly owned by Atel  On Friday, 1 December 2006, it was announced that Atel was acquiring 11 per cent stakes in the power generating complex of ECK Generating s.r.o. (ECKG) and Energetické centrum Kladno, s.r.o.. Both companies belong to Kladno Energy Business (KEB). ECKG and Energetické centrum Kladno are now wholly owned by Atel.

Kladno Energy Businesses (KEB)
Atel acquired Kladno Energy Businesses (KEB) in 2002. KEB represents the largest Swiss investment in the Czech Republic. With almost 280 employees, KEB generates around 1,500 GWh of electricity annually and is thus one of the biggest independent producers of electricity and thermal energy the Czech Republic. The four ECKG power station blocks with a total electrical capacity of 372 MW and a thermal capacity of 272 MW are coal-fired. They use the latest technology to generate electricity and steam. A flue gas cleaning plant efficiently reduces atmospheric pollutant levels – environmental protection and clean air were important factors when constructing the power stations.
